A New Facebook Feature Lets You See Your Posts and Photos on the Same Date in Previous Years

Facebook just unveiled a cool new feature. Not because of what it does . . . but because for once it doesn’t seem creepy or invasive. (Maybe they didn’t appreciate the app TimeHop pulling us away from Facebook).

It’s called “On This Day,” and it’s simple: It shows your posts and photos from the same date in previous years.

You can check it out by going to facebook.com/onthisday . . . but they’re rolling it out to different people at different times, so you may not have access to it quite yet.

Now, you might remember back when Facebook rolled out a “Year in Review” feature . . . and some people blasted them for including photos of past relationships and even friends who died.

So they’ve learned . . . and created a special algorithm for “On This Day” that filters out posts and photos that might show you things you don’t necessarily WANT to be reminded of.

Your Obsession With the Perfect Social Media Post Is Ruining Your Life

(pic source: techaddiction.ca)

The world is passing you by while you fumble around trying to take a picture of it for Instagram.

A new survey found 58% of people say their desire to post the perfect photo on social media has had a negative effect on their life . . . it’s ruined vacations, affected their kids, and sometimes even led them to do bizarre or dangerous things.

91% of people have seen a tourist miss out on enjoying a moment because they’re too busy taking pictures.

79% have seen a parent, quote, “undermine their own experience in a child’s life” for the sake of a photo.

75% admit they’ve done something RUDE to get a picture for social media . . . and 14% have even risked their own safety.

In other words, your obsession with the perfect social media post is ruining your life.

Are These the 20 Most Overrated Actors of Our Time?

JOHNNY DEPP is #1 on a new list of “The 20 Most Overrated Actors of Our Time,” which isn’t surprising since he’s been in a HUGE slump at the box office . . . including his last movie, “Mortdecai”, which has been described as one of his “worst flops ever.”

The rest of the list includes actors who are either still coasting on reputations that are no longer deserved, or who never deserved those reputations in the first place.

Also, no one made the list because of ONE misstep. They had to be “repeat offenders” in failing to deliver the goods. And of course the “failures” are subjective, and are not directly linked to box office numbers or critics’ opinions. Here’s the list:

1. Johnny Depp

2. Liam Neeson

3. Angelina Jolie

4. Robert Downey Jr.

5. Meryl Streep

6. Ben Stiller

7. Melissa McCarthy

8. “Twilight” stars Kristen Stewart
and Robert Pattinson

9. Cameron Diaz

10. Jason Bateman

11. Nicole Kidman

12. Will Smith

13. Seth Rogen

14. Sam Worthington

15. “Harry Potter” stars Emma Watson
and Daniel Radcliffe

16. Mark Wahlberg

17. James Franco

18. Liam Hemsworth

19. Rosamund Pike

20. Eric Bana

They also provided this list of “The Five Most Underrated Actors Right Now”:

1. Emily Blunt
2. Jake Gyllenhaal
3. Emma Stone
4. Miles Teller
5. Hugo Weaving

(The list comes from Australia’s “Herald Sun” newspaper. They have write-ups on all 20, explaining why they’re overrated, along with the chances that they’re able to turn it around.)

How Much Were Woodstock Acts Paid in Today’s Dollars?

(pic credit: woodstock.com)

The original Woodstock in 1969 had a STACKED lineup, so it seems like it would’ve cost a fortune pay the bands . . . even if you consider that many of them are more well-known now than they were then.

A list of the fees paid to each act has been circulating on the Internet for a while now. JIMI HENDRIX got $18,000, which was the most. That seems like a bargain, but when you adjust it for inflation, it would’ve been more like $115,000.

Here’s a list of what each artist earned . . . along with the amount it would be in TODAY’S dollars:

1. Jimi Hendrix, $18,000 then, which is roughly $115,000 now

2. Blood, Sweat & Tears, $15,000 . . . $95,000 now

3. Joan Baez and Creedence Clearwater Revival, both at $10,000 . . . $63,000 now

5. The Band, Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, and Sly and the Family Stone, all at $7,500 . . . $48,000 now

9. Canned Heat, $6,500 . . . $41,000 now

10. The Who, $6,250 . . . $40,000 now

11. Richie Havens, $6,000 . . . $38,000 now

12. Arlo Guthrie and Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young, both at $5,000 . . . $32,000 now

14. Ravi Shankar, $4,500 . . . $28,500 now

15. Johnny Winter, $3,750 . . . $24,000 now

16. Ten Years After, $3,250 . . . $20,000 now

17. Country Joe and the Fish, $2,500 . . . $16,000 now

18. Grateful Dead and Incredible String Band, both at $2,250 . . . $14,000 now

20. Mountain and Tim Hardin, both at $2,000 . . . $12,700 now

22. Joe Cocker, $1,375 . . . $9,000 now

23. Sweetwater, $1,250 . . . $8,000 now

24. John B. Sebastian, $1,000 . . . $6,300 now

25. Melanie and Santana, both at $750 . . . $5,000 now

27. Sha Na Na, $700 . . . $4,500 now

28. Keef Hartley, $500 . . . $3,100 now

29. The New England psychedelic rock band Quill, $375 . . . $2,400 now

That entire collection of talent cost more than $141,000 in 1969, which comes to $896,000 today. That doesn’t include the Paul Butterfield Blues Band and Bert Sommer . . . because their paydays are unknown.

It also doesn’t include Iron Butterfly, who were supposed to receive $5,000 plus another $5,000 for their light show . . . because they never showed.

The inflated numbers make the amounts more relevant, but it was still a bargain. Music festivals today definitely spend WAY more than that, and most of them won’t be remembered one year later, let alone 45-plus years and counting.

Coachella doesn’t release any official numbers, but they reportedly spend several million on their headliners each year, and they have well over 100 acts on the bill. In 2008, they supposedly got Prince for $2 million.

Although, like Woodstock, the smallest bands are probably earning less than they paid to get there.

Three Ways Owning a Pet Is Good for You

Karli’s Evil Cat, Tiger

The next time your dog sniffs someone’s crotch, or your cat treats you with complete disdain, remember this list. Here are three ways owning a pet is good for your health.

1. Pet owners are less likely to feel lonely. Which you probably figured, but researchers at Idaho State University actually tested it.

They asked people to rate how lonely they felt, then had them play with dogs. When they asked them again, they were 60% less likely to say they felt lonely.

2. Kids who grow up with pets don’t have as many allergies. A study at the University of Wisconsin found kids are 17% less likely to suffer from wheezing if there’s a dog in the house, and 15% less likely to develop eczema.

3. They’re good for your heart. And not just because you get more exercise if you own a dog. A study in 2008 found that people who had never owned a cat were 40% more likely to die of a heart attack.
